Abuja, Jan. 24, 2023 – The Senate on Tuesday urged the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to extend the deadline for circulation of old naira notes to June 30, 2023. Abuja, Jan. 24, 2023 – The Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) of the Central Bank has increased the Monetary Policy Rate (MPR) from 16.5 percent to 17.5 percent. The MPR is the nominal anchor rate for commercial banks to lend to their customers. The decision was announced by Godwin Emefiele, the Governor of CBN, at a press briefing at the end of the two-day meeting of the committee in Abuja on Tuesday. Lagos, Jan. 24, 2023 – The Lekki Deep Sea Port will contribute over $361 billion to the Nigerian economy within the next 45 years. The port was inaugurated by President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday as part of his activities during his two-day official tour of Lagos State. It is the first deep sea port in Nigeria and will have a concession term of 45 years. The FIRS gave the figures in its “FIRS 2022 Performance Update” released in Abuja on Monday. Casablanca, Jan. 23, 2023 – The 120 Megawatts power plant in Malicounda, Senegal, co-developed by Africa50 and its partners has reached financial close for a total project cost of €154 million.
