Potiskum, May 28, 2023 – Gov. Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State, has pardoned 115 inmates serving various jail terms in the state as part of his inauguration activities.
Buni, who was elected as the governor of the state in 2019 under the All Progressives Congress (APC), has been re-elected for a second term.
Saleh Samanja, the Chairman of the state Advisory Committee on Prerogative of Mercy and Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Legal Matters, announced the gesture while presenting a report on the method adopted by the in selecting the beneficiary inmates.
He said the committee visited correctional centers in Potiskum, Gashu’a and Nguru and came up with a list of the qualified inmates.
“The beneficiary inmates are mostly those with minor offences who are serving lesser jail terms as well those jailed with option of fine, among others.
“The inmates are very happy and they have assured us that with this act of benevolence and mercy extended to them, they will never go back to their bad ways,” he said.
Buni commended the committee for a good job and warned the affected inmates not to go back to crimes again. (GBN)
