Aviation workers call off strike

Lagos, Jan. 23, 2023 – The National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE) and Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (ATSSSAN) have suspended the strike action embarked on by their members this morning. 148,000 passports awaiting collection – NIS

Abuja, Jan. 21, 2023 – About 148,000 passports have been awaiting collection nationwide since 2020. Anthony Akuneme, the Spokesman for the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), said this in Abuja on Saturday.  “We have precisely 148,000 uncollected passports nationwide from different locations.” According to NIS statistics, Lagos State topped the list of unclaimed passports with 40,000, while  Edo accounted for 24,000 unclaimed passports. COVID-19: ICAO issues new guidelines on air travel

Lagos, Jan. 20, 2023 The International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) has issued new recommendations for countries on COVID-19-related requirements for air travel. ICAO, in a new bulletin from its Collaborative Arrangement for the Prevention and Management of Public Health Events in Civil Aviation, said the guidance was designed to help countries maintain air connectivity. MMIA Customs Command generated N21bn revenue in 2022 – official

Lagos, Jan. 19, 2023 – The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) in Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) generated N20.9 billion revenue in 2022. This is an increase over the N19 billion generated in 2021. Juliana Tomo, the Spokesperson for the Command, said in a statement that the revenue figure also represented an improvement of N1,849,747,265.85 when compared to that of the previous year. The Gambia signs MoU with Africa50 on management of Senegambia Bridge

Casablanca,  Jan. 11  2023 – The Gambia has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Africa50, the pan-African infrastructure investment platform, for the Senegambia Bridge to be considered for Africa50’s Asset Recycling Programme. Asset Recycling is an initiative for governments to monetize existing  infrastructure assets through concession to the private sector with funds received being reinvested in other priority projects. Under the scheme, Africa50, together with a technical partner, are expected to manage and operate the Senegambia Bridge under a PPP scheme.
