Lagos, March 15, 2024 – Massive internet outages have been reported in Nigeria following damage to international undersea cables supplying the country with connectivity. Telecommunications companies and a number of banks which rely on the affected cables for internet services have been affected by the outage. Abuja, March 15, 2024 – The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has blamed the recent disruptions of telecoms services on cable cuts long the West African coastline. The NCC said a combination of cable cuts, resulting in equipment faults on the major undersea cables along the West African Coast, had negatively impacted data and fixed telecom services in several countries of West Africa, including Nigeria, Ghana, Senegal, Cote de Ivoire, among others. Lagos, March 6, 2024 – Telecom operators are planning to begin the second phase of phone line disconnection on March 31. Gbenga Adebayo, the Chairman of Association of Licensed Telecoms Operators of Nigeria (ALTON), said this on Tuesday.
