NCC directs telcos to block SIMs 5 minutes after they are reported stolen

Abuja, Aug. 22, 2024 – The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has directed all telecommunications companies (telcos) to block stolen Subscriber Identification Module (SIM) cards within five minutes of receiving a report of their theft. The NCC said any subsequent usage of the stolen SIM should not incur charges for the consumer from the time the report is made. NCC gave the directive its recent publication, ‘Quality of Service Business Rules,’ released in August 2024. This move aims to provide clear, easy-to-understand, and accurate information about the cost of voice, short messaging service (SMS) and data services to subscribers. Abuja, July 30, 2024 – The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has ordered immediate reactivation of SIMs that were barred during the NIN-SIM verification exercise.
