Benin, Jan. 11, 2023 – The Edo State Government says the number of abducted passengers at the Tom Ikimi/Ekehen station in Igueben on Saturday were 20 and not 32 as widely reported. Chris Nehikhare, the Edo Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, said seven of the abductees had been rescued, leaving 13 victims still with the gunmen. Nehikhare said security agents, vigilance members and hunters were on the heels of the gunmen. He assured that all the victims would be rescued unhurt and without payment of ransom. (GBN)

Kaduna, Jan. 10, 2023 – The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) lost seven officers that were ambushed and killed by bandits in Kaduna State on Monday, the Corps announced on Tuesday.  The NSCDC in Kaduna said the officers were killed with five others from a sister security agency and a local security service. The officers, who were attached to the Kaduna State Ministry of Mines, were on official duty at a mining site in Birnin Gwari Local Government of Kaduna State. Port Harcourt, Jan. 10, 2023 – The Rivers State Police Command on Tuesday said its operatives had smashed a child trafficking syndicate and arrested four suspects in Igwuruta and Omagwa, Obio/Akpor and Ikwerre Local Government Areas of the state. The command also said 10 girls, most of whom were pregnant, including teenagers found in two of the locations were rescued. Lagos, Jan. 9, 2023 – Two people were feared dead on Monday morning when police clashed with Yoruba Nation agitators at the Ojota area in Lagos. Benjamin Hundeyin, the Police Public Relations Officer in the State, confirmed the incident. He said that the Yoruba Nation agitators had gathered unlawfully and were dispersed by the Police. “Some people calling themselves Yoruba Nation agitators were the ones causing problems. They gathered unlawfully and were agitating, and were dispersed,” Hundeyin said. According to him, normalcy has since been restored in the area. (GBN)
