Abuja, Jan. 23, 2023 – The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted 126.95kg of cocaine and skunk being brought into the country. The drugs were intercepted at Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu, and at Tincan Port in Lagos. Femi Babafemi, the Director of Media and Advocacy at the NDLEA, on Sunday in Abuja, said the drugs were concealed in herbal tea packs and in vehicles imported from Brazil and Canada. Lagos, Jan. 22, 2022 – Dr Ifedayo Adetifa, the Director General of National Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, says diphtheria has killed at least 35 persons in the country. Dr Adetifa said this during a television programme in Lagos.  He said cases of diphtheria had been reported in Lagos, Kano, Yobe, and Osun states with Kano having the highest number and followed by Yobe State. Abuja, Jan. 20, 2023 – The 2023 national population and housing census will hold from March 29 to April 1, 2023. Nasir Kwarra, the Chairman of National Population Commission, announced this in Abuja on Friday after an audience with the President Muhammadu Buhari. “By March 29 to April 2, our staff will be in the field enumerating people,” said Kwarra. Abeokuta, Jan, 20, 2023 – Theophilus Oladipo Ogunlesi, the first Nigerian Professor of Medicine is dead. Ogunlesi, who hailed from Sagamu in Ogun State, died on Thursday at the age of 99 years. He became first Nigerian Professor of Medicine in 1965. Ogunlesi started his career as a medical doctor at Yaba College of Medicine in 1947. Confirming his death, the Ogun State Governor,  Dapo Abiodun, described Ogunlesi’s death as painful. Abuja, Jan. 20, 2023 (NAN) The National Judicial Council (NJC) has recommended the appointment of nine heads of courts and 84 judges. The NJC Director of Information, Soji Oye, said in a statement on Friday that the decisions were taken at the council’s meeting held on January 18 and January 19, 2023. Abuja, Jan. 20, 2023- The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) says it is responding to reports of diphtheria cases in Lagos and Kano States,, while monitoring the situation in Osun and Yobe states.
