Tinubu approves appointment of Ramat as new CEO of NERC

Abuja, Aug. 7, 2025 – President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Abdullahi Garba Ramat as the new Chairman/Chief Executive of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).

Bayo Onanuga, a Presidential Spokesman, announced the appointment in a statement.

According to the statement, Ramat, 39, an electrical engineer with a PhD in Strategic Management., will assume duty in acting capacity pending his confirmation by the Senate.

It said the president directed Ramat to assume office in acting capacity pending his screening by the Senate, as stipulated by the law, to avoid leadership vacuum in the critical regulatory agency.

The president also nominated two other officials to serve as commissioners in the NERC.

They are Abubakar Yusuf, who is to serve as Commissioner of Consumer Affairs, and Dr. Fouad Olayinka Animashun, who is to serves as Commissioner of Finance and Management Services.

The president advised the new appointees to use their expertise to discharge their functions and work assiduously to advance the administration’s power sector vision.

The statement said the appointments are subject to the approval of the Senate.
