Abuja, July, 15, 2026 -The Senate on Wednesday approved N50 million donation for the families of five individuals who lost their lives in the rescue operation of abducted pupils and teachers in Orire Local Government area of Oyo State.
The five affected persons are Lieutenant F.A. Isaac, Private Silas Musa and Sergeant Abena John Jerome and the two teachers.
The donation followed the adoption of a motion by Senator Opeyemi Bamidele (Ekiti Central) , the Senate leader at the plenary.
Bamidele said the successful rescue of the children and teachers, after 56 days in captivity, had brough relief to the nation and commended the officer involved in the for their gallantry
“The successful rescue has restored hope and confidence among Nigerians, particularly parents and school communities,” the Senate resolution noted, adding that it sends an “unmistakable message” that criminals have no haven in Nigeria,” he said..
The Senate, while adopting the motion, observed a minute’s silence in honour of the deceased and promised that their sacrifices would not be forgotten.
Godswill Akpabio, the Senate President, announced the N5o million donation and directed that each of the families be given N10 million for the upkeep of the depedants.
The Senate also advised the federal government to provide the adequate medical care and welfare support to Lance Corporal Adamu Hussain (16NA/75/6430) of the 81 Battalion, who sustained severe injuries during the operation.
