Abuja, Sept. 14, 2025 – The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted an Indian businessman, Gupta Ravi Kumar, with 2,248,000 pills of Tramadol 200mg/225mg worth about N3.99 billion at Lagos airport.
He was arrested with three Nigerian accomplices: Ogunlana Noah Olanrewaju, Olushola Idrees Kayode, and Bakare Korede Muheeb.
Femi Babafemi, the NDLEA Spokesman, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday.
The statement said the tramadol pills, worth about N3.99 billion in street value, were disguised as multi-vitamins in 114 cartons and imported from Delhi, India.
The shipment arrived at the import shed of the Lagos airport on an Ethiopian Airline flight on Monday, Sept. 8, 2025.
It said a team of NDLEA officers, who had put the consignment under surveillance, swooped on a clearing agent and two drivers who were trying to move the shipment out of the airport in two trucks on Thursday, Sept. 11.
A follow-up operation, led to the arrest of Gupta Ravi Kumar, the Indian businessman, while he was trying to take delivery of the consignment.
The NDLEA also its operatives at the Terminal 2 departure gate of Lagos airport intercepted a passenger, Onyeganochi Stanley Ifeanyi, while traveling on a Qatar Airline flight to Doha on Sunday, Sept. 7, 2025.
It said a search conducted on his bag led to the recovery of 900 grams of skunk, a strain of cannabis concealed in crayfish.
Onyeganochi, who was a first-time traveler, claimed the bag was given to him to help take to Doha by a Ohadiegwu Anthony Uchenna, a Qatar-based Nigerian who actually followed him to the airport.
His confession led to the arrest of Uchenna, who was still within view.
The operatives later conducted a search of Uchenna’s hotel room in Ajao Estate, discovered an additional 200 grams of the same psychoactive substance.
He claimed he was to return to Doha days later and pick the bag from the unsuspecting Onyeganochi if he had succeeded in escaping security checks.
The NDLEA said it also recovered 161 parcels of Canadian Loud, a strain of cannabis weighing 81.7kg, and 1.2kg hashish oil from a 40ft container of vehicle spare parts and used vehicles imported from Montreal, Canada, during a joint examination of the shipment on Tuesday, 9th September at the Tincan Port in Lagos.
Two suspects -John Ochigbo, 53, and Okeke Kingsley, 26, – were taken into custody in connection with the seizure.
The NDLEA said, on Thursday, Sept. 11, another shipment of Canadian Loud weighing 65kg was tracked from the port to Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos on Thursday, Sept. 11, where its operatives intercepted a Toyota Sienna vehicle conveying the consignment.
It recovered the consignment and arrested the driver, AbubakarIbrahim, 42.
The NDLEA also intercepted two separate shipments of methamphetamine, concealed in picture frames, and Loud, hidden in video players, at two courier companies in Lagos on Monday, Sept. 8, and Thursday, Sept.11.
