Abuja, Dec. 18, 2024 – Godswill Akpabio, the Senate President, on Wednesday promised that the National Assembly would do a thorough and timely evaluation of the 2025 Appropriation Bill.
He said the National Assembly would ensure that the bill reflect the voices of Nigerians.
Akpabio made his promise immediately President Bola Tinubu presented the 2025 Budget to a joint sitting of the national Assembly on Wednesday.
He described the 2025 Appropriation Bill, as presented to the legislature by the president, as a critical blueprint for the nation’s transformation.
He commended the president for his for his leadership role, which he said, had been a beacon of hope in these challenging times.
The Senate president also commended his administration for its courageous reforms, particularly for the removal of petrol subsidy.
He described the four tax bills before the National Assembly as a transformative shift in Nigeria’s fiscal landscape.
Akpabio said the tax reforms would be the first comprehensive tax overhaul since the independence.
He said the tax reforms would rejuvenate small and medium enterprises, foster a more competitive business environment, and bolster Nigeria’s revenue profile for sustainable development.
The Senate president said such measures reflected the President’s commitment to Nigeria’s economic stability and growth.
The Senate President listed other achievements of the president to include doubling of government revenues to NGN18.32 trillion, reductions in debt servicing from 97 per cent to 68 per cent, increased oil production to 1.8 million barrels per day, and others.
