Abuja, Dec. 18, 2025 – Abubakar Shettima, the National President of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), has commended the federal government for the appointment of new chief executives for the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) and the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA).
Shettima made the commendation in Abuja on Thursday while addressing a press conference..
He said the change of leadership was essential in the two organisations in view of recent developments in the sector.
The IPMAN boss said the leadership change was also essential to strengthen regulatory oversight in the sector.
He, however, urged the new management to prioritise debt payment by paying the long-outstanding bridging claims owed to IPMAN members, currently estimated at over ₦190 billion.
He said any delay in the payment of the debt could hamper the smooth supply of petroleum products in the near future.
Shettima also expressed support for renewed efforts of the federal government to increase the county’s crude oil production.
He said increased local production would ensure more foreign exchange inflow into the country.
