Washington, March 12, 2025 – US President Donald Trump has invited Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky back to the White House after a meeting in Saudi Arabia.
U.S. and Ukrainian officials will meet again at the Oval Office.
Marco Rubio, US Secretary of State, told reporters that the deal was reached after hours negotiations between American and Ukrainian officials in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
“Today, we made an offer that the Ukrainians have accepted, which is to enter into a cease-fire and into immediate negotiations to end this conflict in a way that’s enduring and sustainable and accounts for their interests, their security, their ability to prosper as a nation,” Donald Trump’s top foreign affairs official said.
The first meeting ended in a fiasco after which Trump said Zelenskyy was gambling with World War III, and “what you’re doing is very disrespectful to the country.”
Zelenskyy ended up leaving the White House without signing a deal that included granting the U.S. access to Ukraine rare earth minerals.
Saudi Arabia played a major role in reaching a truce on Tuesday at a meeting between the two parties in Jeddah.
The kingdom promised to continue to pursue a lasting peace to end the Ukrainian crisis. “The kingdom has continued these efforts over the past three years by hosting many meetings on this matter,” its Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said. (GBN)
