Lagos, Feb. 29, 2024 – President Bola Tinubu on Thursday advised the labour union to maintain the peace over the current economic crisis in the country.
He gave the advice while inaugurating the first phase of the Red Line project of Lagos State Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) at the Ikeja Train Station.
The inaugurated phase is a 37- kilometer Red Line, running 27 kilometers from Agbado in Ogun State to Oyingbo.
It stretches across eight stations of Agbado, Iju, Agege, Ikeja, Oshodi, Mushin, Yaba, and Oyingbo.
While inaugurating the project, Tinubu commended Governor Sanwo-Olu for the pivotal role in the creation of the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA).
He extended his regards to all dignitaries at the occasion over the economic hardship caused by his policies.
Tinubu then took a swipe at the labour unions for their continuous agitations over the crisis.
“Allow me to throw a jab here. The Labour Union should understand that you’re not the only one with freedom & rights.
“If you want to participate in the electoral process, meet us in 2027.
“If not, maintain peace. You’re not the only voice of Nigeria.”
“There is a very bright light at the end of the tunnel. Nigeria will be out of the economic problem; we just need to persevere and work hard.”
Tinubu said his administration would not back down on its policies and actions taken to curb corruption and make good use of diverted funds in the public sector.
“When you put people at the focus of your vision and planning, you will understand the value of democracy,” Tinubu said.
The inauguration ceremony also featured the formal agreement signing for the commencement of the Red Line’s second phase between LAMATA and CCECC.
Tinubu later took the presidential inaugural ride on the Red Line with some dignitaries from the Ikeja Train Station.
The construction of the first phase of the Red Line commenced on April 15, 2021, and was successfully completed 30 months. (GBN)
