Abuja, Feb. 8, 2026 – The Senate is to hold an emergency plenary sitting on Tuesday, February 10, 2026 to deliberate on the controversy generated by the recent amendments to the Electoral Act.
The Clerk of the Senate, Emmanuel Odo, announced this in a statement on Sunday.
According to the statement, the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has directed the reconvening of plenary for an emergency sitting on Tuesday, February 10th, 2026.
It said that the session would commence at 12 noon and advised all senators to attend.
The emergency sitting is being called following the controversy generated by the passage of the Electoral Act Amendment Bill on February 4, which voted out the Clause 60(3) which provided for real-time electronic transmission of election results.
The clause, as obtained in the previous elections, required presiding officers at polling units to electronically transmit results directly to the Independent National Electoral Commission’s Result Viewing (IReV) portal as obtained in the last elections.
This development has caused public outcry among some politician calling for its retention.
