Abuja, July 23, 2024 -The Senate on Tuesday passed a bill to increase the minimum wage to N70,000 from N35,000.
The bill, Minimum Wage Act (Amendment) Bill, 2024, was presented to the National Assembly by President Bola Tinubu early this month for the approval of the new minimum wage agreed with the labour.
Sen. Opeyemi Bamidele, who led the debate on the general principles of the bill, said it sought to amend the National Minimum Wage Act, 2019 to increase the National Minimum Wage and reduce the time for its review from five years to three years.
With this development, the bill will now await the concurrence of the House of Representatives before it is transmitted by the Clerk to the National Assembly, Sani Magaji Tambawal, to President Bola Tinubu for assent into law. (GBN)
