Abuja, Oct. 16, 2025 – The Senate has confirmed the appointment of Joash Amupitan as the new Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
President Bola Tinubu had written to the Senate to confirm the appointment of Amupitan as nee Chairman of INEC following his nomination last week.
The Senate confirmed the appointment on Thursday after bhe was screened by the Committee of the Whole House.
After the screening, Amupitan was requested to take a bow before leaving the Senate Chamber.
The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, later announced the confirmation of Amupitan’s nomination as the new Chairman of INEC.
Amupitan, 58, is a Professor of Law at the University of Jos.
He is from Ayetoro Gbede in Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State.
