Abuja, March 13, 2025 – The House of Representatives has called on the Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC) block all websites hosting obscene and pornographic contents.
The House made the call after the adoption of a motion on the “Need to Block Internet Websites Hosting Pornographic Contents and Sanction Defaulting Internet Service Providers (ISPS)” moved by Dalhatu Tafoki during plenary on Tuesday in Abuja.
Dalhatu had argued that the increasing wave of phonographic contents on the internet was becoming alarming and urged the House to check its widespread.
He said measures should be taken to address the issue in the country, adding that many Nigerians had strong religious values which oppose indecent exposure and immoral content in any form.
Dalhatu said many countries in Asia, Africa, and the Middle East had enacted laws prohibiting access to such materials on the internet.
He said pornographic contents often led to deception in marriage, promote adultery, sexual addiction, prostitution and other many immoral behaviours.
The lawmaker advised the House to heed the warnings from respected experts in psychology and sociology regarding the negative effects of such contents on the individuals’ mental and social well-being.
The House adopted the motion and directed its Committees on Communications and Legislative Compliance to ensure the implementation and report within four weeks for further legislative action.
