Akure, Dec. 17, 2025 – Ondo State government has warned advertisers to stop using the state as a dumping ground for illegal banners, posters and unapproved advertisements.
The state government gave the warning on Wednesday in a statement signed by Yòmí Oyékàn, the Senior Special Assistant to the state Governor on Signage & Advertisement.
It said the growing disregard for due process in the placement of signages and billboards was unacceptable and deeply disrespectful to the collective image of our state.
The state government said all illegal advertisements would be removed without notice, while both the building owners and advertisers would face heavy fines and prosecution under the law
The statement reads: “When building owners and advertisers allow their walls, fences and complexes to be covered with unauthorized materials, they are not just breaking the law, they are actively contributing to the defacement of our cities and communities, robbing residents of pride, order and dignity.
“This growing disregard for due process is unacceptable and deeply disrespectful to the collective image of our State.
“Let it be clearly understood that no advertisement is permitted anywhere in Ondo State without express approval from the Ondo State Signage and Advertisement Agency (OSSAA).
“Properties around The Akure Mall, Oja Oba, Arakale Market, Alagbaka including the Bank of Industry building, and similar locations have become symbols of this abuse, and government will no longer look away.
“Building owners who allow these infractions are partners in the offence and will be treated accordingly.
“With immediate effect, all illegal advertisements will be removed without notice, while both the building owners and advertisers will face heavy fines and prosecution under the law.
“This action is not about punishment alone; it is about restoring order, protecting the beauty of Ondo State and reclaiming our shared spaces.
“The era of indiscriminate advertising is over, and compliance is no longer optional.”
