Akure, January 12, 2026 – The Ondo State government has commenced rehabilitating the long-abandoned MKO Garden/Park in Alagbaka area of Akure.
The Ondo State Signage and Advertisement Agency (OSSAA) disclosed this in a statement on Sunday.
It said the project is in line with the urban renewal and urbanisation plan of Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa and also represented a strategic intervention by the state to reclaim and restore a neglected public space, improve urban aesthetics, and reposition the park for functional and economic use within the state capital.
It also said the park was being transformed into a regulated and well-structured hub for signage and outdoor advertising activities in the state.
The statement quoted Yòmí Oyékàn, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Signage and Advertisement, as saying that the exercise reflected the Aiyedatiwa administration’s deliberate efforts to integrate urban renewal with economic development.
“The revamp of the long-abandoned MKO Garden/Park, Alagbaka, is a deliberate and strategic step to reclaim public space, restore urban aesthetics, and unlock new economic value for Ondo State.
“Beyond beautification, this project is aimed at repositioning the park as a regulated hub for signage and outdoor advertising, providing structured opportunities for corporate organizations, government campaigns, and private brands, while boosting Internally Generated Revenue through compliant advertising practices,” Oyékàn said.
The statement said, when completed, the revamped MKO Garden/Park would serve as a major hotspot for branding, visual communication, and outdoor advertising, while contributing significantly to the growth of Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) for the state.
The Agency assured residents and stakeholders that the revamp is ongoing and being executed in phases, in line with global best practices, to ensure safety, orderliness, environmental sustainability, and improved visual appeal across Alagbaka and its environs.
“The Ondo State Signage and Advertisement Agency reiterates its commitment to supporting the Governor’s vision of a cleaner, more organized, and economically vibrant urban environment through responsible signage regulation and strategic infrastructure revitalization,” it stressed.
