Member of House of Reps walked out for improper dressing

Abuja, July 12, 2023 – A member of the House of Representatives was walked out of the House on Wednesday for improper dressing.

The member, whose identity could not be ascertained, wore a T-shirt over a pair of jeans trousers with slippers when he sauntered into the House late very close to the end of the plenary.

The House rules proscribe a dress code for members attending plenary with members expected to wear a suit and tie or in traditional dress with a cap to match.

Hon. Billy Osaweru (APC, Edo) raised an order which drew the attention of the House to the mode of dressing of the member, which he said, was in contravention of the House dressing code for members,

He said: “Mr. Speaker, our rules state the need for proper dressing while coming for plenary. Mr. Speaker, if you look upstairs, there is a member in Chamber wearing a T-Shirt and jean trousers.”

As the Speaker was  saying “point of order complied with”, the member hurriedly stood up and walked out of the Chamber. (GBN)
