Abuja, Dec. 5, 2024 – Dr Aminu Maida, the Chief Executive of the Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC), has highlighted the importance of a structured approach to the protection of telecom infrastructure.
Maida made the observation at the just concluded Workshop on Critical National Information Infrastructure Protection and Resilience in Abuja.
He said this approach was essential to addressing the persistent issues of vandalism, fibre-optic damage, and restricted access to telecom facilities which the sector had long struggled with.
He said these issues had also cost operators billions of naira and hindered connectivity.
Maida commended President Bola Tinubu for signing the Executive Order designating telecommunication infrastructure as critical national assets which has provided such protection in the sector.
“This designation provides a framework to tackle key challenges like vandalism, fibre cuts, and restricted access to facilities,” he said.
He described the executive order as a game-changer for the industry.
Maida also commended the collaboration of government, industry players, and regulators for the issuance of the executive order.
He said their initiative would ensure a secure and resilient communication network for Nigerians.
