Abuja, July 21, 2025 – Kayode Egbetokun, the Inspector-General of Police, has appealed to retired police officers not to allow external forces to use them.
Egbetoku made the appeal in Abuja on Monday during a meeting with some of the protesting police officers.
Some retired police officers on Monday staged a protest against poor retirement benefits on the premises of the National Assembly in Abuja.
The IGP said some external forces, who might not really be interested in their plight, might want to use them for their selfish interests.
He appealed to them to give the authorities some more time to address their problem.
He said the issue of poor retirement benefit to policemen concerned equally concerned the serving officers as well.
The IGP said the Force empathized with the affected police officers, especially those under the contributory pension scheme.
He said the serving officers equally felt concerned because all of them would retire at a time.
Egbetokun said he had taken their issue to the highest level of government to ensure that the condition of the poor police pensioners was addressed soonest.
He said he had just met with Nuhu Ribadu, the National Security Adviser, where the issue was discussed and assured them their plight would soon be resolved.
