Lagos, July 12, 2023 -Gbenga Daniel, a former Governor of Ogun State, says he stopped his pensions and allowances as a former governor to avoid double payment.
He said the reason for the decision was to avoid getting double pay having returned to public service 12 years after.
Daniel, representing Ogun East Senatorial District at the 10th Senate, said this while speaking on Channels Television on Tuesday.
“I remember there was a court judgement which SERAP got basically saying that people should not be entitled to double payment, especially if you now have another kind of public office.
“But even before then, naturally, a human being should not be entitled to double remuneration.
“So, for me as I said earlier, for about 12 years I was not in public service, now that I am back in public service let me just make sure that I tidy things up as somebody pointed out.
“I say why don’t I just remind the governor that I am not here again and he should please stop the monthly pension that he was paying and hopefully when I am out of the Senate, we check what the law says,” he said.
Daniel advised all public officers to set good examples of a better society and to improve the value system. (GBN)
