Abuja, May 28, 2025 – The federal government is to roll out a N3.3 trillion digital infrastructure development plan to bridge the digital divide and boost broadband penetration in the country.
Bosun Tijani, the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, disclosed this in a statement
He said digital infrastructure development plan, which includes the deployment of 90,000 kilometers of fibre lines and building of 7,000 telecom towers across, would commence in the fourth quarter of 2025.
According to Tijani, the project, dubbed Project Bridge, will bring rural areas into the digital fold and potentially add 2.5 per cent to Nigeria’s GDP.
The rollout is part of a larger initiative to expand broadband connectivity and boost the digital economy.
The plan aims to improve access to affordable, high-quality internet and mobile services for all Nigerians, regardless of location.
The project is considered one of the largest broadband infrastructure projects in Africa, with the aim of creating the third-longest fibre network in the continent.
The federal government has also been actively promoting digital skills training, such as the 3MTT (3 MillionTechnical Training) program, to develop a tech-savvy workforce.
This program has already trained over 117,000 Nigerians in digital skills.
The government also aims to attract foreign direct investment (FDI) into the digital economy, with significant growth seen in Q1 2024.
