Abuja, March 16, 2023 – The Nigeria Police has announced restriction of vehicular movements during the Saturday’s Gubernatorial and state Houses of Assembly elections in 28 states where the elections will hold.

Usman Baba, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), directed that the restriction should affect vehicular movements on roads, waterways, and other forms of transportation from 12.00 am to 6.00 pm on election day.

A statement by the police, however, said exception would be given to essential services including officials of INEC, electoral observers, accredited media and observers, ambulances responding to medical emergencies and firefighters, among others.

The police reiterated its ban on all security aides to VIPs and escorts from accompanying their principals and politicians to polling booths and collation centres during the election.

“State-established and owned security outfits/organizations, quasi-security units, and privately-owned guard and security outfits are also barred from participating in election security management,” the statement said. (GBN)
