Transactions on NGX upbeat, trades N45bn worth of shares

Lagos, Dec. 11, 2023 – A total of 2.423 billion shares worth N45.070 billion were traded in 34,704 deals on the Nigerian Exchange (NGX) last week.

This was in contrast to the 2.543 billion shares valued at N38.644 billion traded in 36,138 deals in the preceding week.

The Financial Services Industry, measured by volume, led the activity chart with 1.726 billion shares valued at N22.760 billion traded in 18,190 deals.

The industry contributed 71.23% and 50.50% to the total equity turnover volume and value, respectively.

The Conglomerates followed with 201.478 million shares worth N2.350 billion exchanged in 1,533 deals.

The third place was taken by the Consumer Goods industry with a turnover of 127.468 million shares worth N3.671 billion exchanged in 4,113 deals.

Trading in the top three equities namely: Universal Insurance, United Bank for Africa and Guaranty Trust Holdings Company, measured by volume, accounted for 543.315 million shares worth N10.577 billion in 3,860 deals.

The three equities contributed 22.43% and 23.47% to the total equity turnover volume and value, respectively.

Forty-nine equities appreciated in price last week, higher than the 32 equities in the previous week.

Thirty-three equities depreciated in price, lower than 49 in the previous week, while 73 equities remained unchanged, the same as 73 recorded in the preceding week.

The NGX All-Share Index and Market Capitalisation appreciated by 0.17% to close the week at 71,541.74 and N39.149 trillion, respectively.   (GBN)
