Abuja, Aug. 7, 2023 – ECOWAS Leaders are to hold their second extraordinary summit on the political situation in Niger Republic on Aug. 10, 2023.
The first extraordinary meeting was held in Abuja on Sunday, July 30, 2023.
The ECOWAS leaders will be discussing the next line of actions to take on recent developments in Niger following the expiration of their seven-day ultimatum to the coup leaders. Â Â
ECOWAS leaders had warned the coup leaders that they would take all necessary measures to sack the junta if democracy was not restored to the country and Bazoum reinstated.Â
The junta has remained defiant in readiness for ECOWAS actions. Â
It had closed air space and put border forces on the alert. (GBN)
