Abuja, June 14, 2023 – President Bola Tinubu has approved the indefinite suspension of AbdulRasheed Bawa, the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), to allow for proper investigation into his conduct in office.

A statement by Willie Bassey, the Director of Information in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, said the action followed weighty allegations of abuse of office levelled against him.

“Mr Bawa has been directed to immediately handover the affairs of his office to the Director, Operations in the Commission, who will oversee the affairs of the Office of the Chairman of the Commission pending the conclusion of the investigation,” the statement said.

The EFCC chairman was at the State House for a meeting with the President earlier in the day.

This development is coming after last Friday’s suspension of Godwin Emefiele, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria  and his subsequent arrest by the DSS. (GBN)
