Abuja, June 13, 2023 – Senate President Godswill Akpabio has pledged to work with President Bola Tinubu to uplift Nigeria.
He made the pledge in Abuja on Tuesday while delivering his inaugural address after he was sworn-in as the President of the 10th Senate.
Akpabio said the National Assembly would provide the required legislative framework and legal environment for the president to anchor his policies and programmes for the country.
He said the Senate would be for all and promised to operate on the principle of Servant Leadership and Uncommon Leadership.
Akpabio extended the hands of fellowship to his opponent during the contest and other lawmakers who had divergent views on who should emerge as President of the Senate.
“I am pleased, as I am sure that you too are, that we have in His Excellency, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, a President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, who is committed to a strong economy, national security, inclusion and the rule of law.
“The antecedents of Mr President and his actions in office these past two weeks give not just a pointer, but bear witness to an executive government that knows the challenges of the country and is in a hurry to resolve same,” he said.
“We should, therefore, anticipate an executive that is pro-active, progressive and practical.
“Our laws must, therefore, align with the vision of Mr. President to protect and provide for our people at the innermost core of their essence while our actions must also guarantee the best and most efficient use of our national commonwealth.”
Akpabio was on Tuesday elected as President of the 10th Senate.
He was declared elected by the Clerk to the National Assembly, Sani Tambuwal.
Akpabio polled 63 votes to defeated Abdulaziz Yari, who won 46 votes. (GBN)
