Abuja, June 12, 2023 – President Tinubu on Monday signed the Students’ Loan Bill into law.

The gesture is in fulfilment of one his campaign promises to ease education funding in the country.

Dele Alake, the Presidential Spokesman, confirmed this development to the press on Monday evening.

He said the step underscored President Tinubu’s commitment to transforming the education sector and providing increased access to financial support for students as promised during his presidential campaign.

Alake said details of the loan programme would be made available at a later date.

He said that President Tinubu’s promise during the presidential campaign to prioritize student loans had been fulfilled.

“He has just signed that bill into law, which will enable our indigent students to access federal government loans to fund their educational pursuits or careers.

“This is a common practice in other developed countries around the world,” Alake said.

The bill, sponsored by Femi Gbajabiamila, a former Speaker of House of Representatives, is a step toward the introduction of free education in lower levels of education in Nigeria. (GBN)
