Abuja, Nov. 7, 2025 – The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) has retrenched over 800 workers due to financial crisis.
Some reports said the retrenchment exercise, which started on Wednesday, was due to the failure of the company to perform daily operational duties across its network as well as meet its obligations to workers.
The company confirmed the mass retrenchment in a statement on Friday.
It said the exercise was to reposition the company for improved customer satisfaction and sustainable growth.
According to the statement the mass sack was due to a restructuring exercise aimed at delivering improved services to our customers as well as enhanced operational efficiency and excellence.
The company said that as part of the transformation exercise, it had also promoted some high-performing staff and “released” some retiring employees and those performing below par.
It said the exercise was to put in motion the implementation of a robust employee development and customer management plan aimed at driving its customer-centric focus.
