Washington, April 3, 2025 – President Donald Trump of the US has imposed 14% tariff on Nigerian exports to the United States.
This was announced on Wednesday during the “Liberation Day” tariffs glee imposed on different countries by the Trump administration.
On the average, the Trump administration announced10% tariffs on all countries.
The new tariffs, which affected 185 countries, is seen as the latest escalation of a trade war by the US.
According to the Trump administration, the reciprocal tariffs are intended to check trade imbalances against the U.S. and ultimately boost its economy.
The 14% tariff imposed on Nigeria’s exports is to redress the 27% Nigeria imposed on U.S exports to Nigeria which, it said, had been detrimental to U.S. businesses.
