Abuja, March 1, 2025 – Alhaji Abbas Jamilu, the National President of Market and Traders Association of Nigeria (MATAN), has advised members against hiking prices of goods and commodities during the Ramadan.
Abbas gave the advice in a statement made available to newsmen in Abuja..
He urged them to fear God and shun exploitation during spiritual and festive occasions to receive more blessings from God.
The MATAN leader expressed regret that some marketers and traders are fond of jerking up prices of their goods beyond roof tops on these occassions.
Jamilu reminded members that ”Nigerians are facing harsh economic times with very poor income that has made lives at the mere threshold of survival.”
He also called on the Federal Government to review and make its economic policies citizen friendly.
”Besides, the other tiers of state and local governments should also do the needful by cushioning the effects of the harsh economy,” MATAN president said.
While wishing Muslims a successful Ramadan, he urged the faithful to imbibe and practice the lessons of the season.
Jamilu, who is also the Special Adviser to Gov. Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State on Cooperatives, appealed to wealthy individuals, philanthropists and organisations to help the needy in society. (GBN)
