Lagos, Dec. 24, 2024 – Internet usage in Nigeria has been rising steadily in the last one year, according to the Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC)
The internet services are being provided by the four main mobile operators of MTN, Airtel, Globacom and 9mobile.
According to the latest statistics provided by the NCC on its website, internet usage reached the peak of 270,398.28 terabytes in October 2024, from the lowest level of 645,407 terabytes in November 2023.
It rose steadily from 766.708.12 terabytes in February 2024 to 771,993.56 terabytes in March 2024 to 798,583.81 terabytes in April 2024 and to 829,584.47 terabytes in May 2024.
The internet usage also rose from 853,954.05 terabytes in June to 850,249.09 terabytes in July 2024 to 853,950.05 terabytes in August 2024, and dropped slightly to 850,249.09 terabytes in September 2024.
On the Mobile Number Portability (MNP) introduced by NCC in April 22, 2013, the NCC recorded the highest number of 7,886 in a month in September 2024, while the lowest number of 616 was recorded in June 2021.
In September 2024 when the number of porters peaked at 7,886, MTN had the highest of 4,987 porters, Airtel had 2,202, Globacom 664, while 9mobile had 30 porters.
In June 2021 when NCC recorded the lowest number of 616 porters, MTN had 65 porters, Airtel recoded 360, 9mobile had 194, while Globacom had none. (GBN)
