Abuja, Sept. 17, 2024 – The presidency has denied a media report that President Bola Tinubu had ordered Olayemi Cardoso, the Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), to resign from the office.
An online medium had on Tuesday reported that President Tinubu had ordered the apex bank governor to resign his appointment immediately over non-performance.
The report said that the president was particularly not pleased with the failure of CBN governor to check the steady depreciation of the naira contrary to his promise to revert the exchange rate to between N700 and N900 per dollar by May 29, 2024.
Bayo Onanuga, the Senior Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, denied the report as false.
In a terse statement on Tuesday evening, Onanuga wrote:
“It’s all lies. President Tinubu has not asked Yemi Cardoso to resign.” –
