Abuja, Feb. 29, 2024 – President Bola Tinubu’s nominee from the South East for board appointment at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has declined the offer.
Urum Kalu Eke, the nominee, claimed his current engagement with the World Bank as a consultant and other international financial institutions would conflict with his assignment at the Central Bank.
Senator Orji Kalu (APC), representing Abia North, told the Senate on Thursday that the nominee had called him on the phone to reject the offer.
“The nominee told me this role would conflict with his job as a consultant to the World Bank, Federal Government agencies and other private companies.”
This development arose when the senate commenced the confirmation process of the nominees during the plenary on Thursday.
Meanwhile, the Senate has confirmed the appointment of four other members of the Board of Directors of the CBN as forwarded by the President.
Those confirmed are Robert Agbede, Ado Yakubu Wanka, Professor Murtala Sabo Sagagi and Mrs. Muslimat Olanike Aliyu. (GBN)
