Abuja, March 4, 2025 – The House of Representatives on Tuesday directed Multichoice, operators of DStv and GOtv, to stop its planned subscription rate hike.
This followed the adoption of a motion moved by Esosa Iyawe, (APC, Edo), at the plenary.
In the motion, Iyawe had argued that the planned subscription hike was the second increase in less than a year as the last increase was in May 2024.
He said many subscribers even rose against the last price adjustment due to the current economic situation in the country.
Iyawe said MultiChoice’s subscription rate hike would have widespread effect on Nigerians due to its dominance in the market and called on the House to intervene.
After the adoption of the motion, the House directed its Committee on Commerce to probe the new subscription hike.
It gave the committee four weeks to submit its report.
