Abuja, May 28, 2024 – The Senate on Tuesday passed a bill, the National Anthem Bill 2024,  to revert to the old national anthem, “Nigeria, We Hail Thee.” With the passage of the bill and accent by President Bola Tinubu, the old anthem, adopted on October 1, 1960, will replace the current anthem. Lagos, May 16, 2024 – Emirates Airline is to resume its daily flight operations to Nigeria on Oct. 1, 2024.has announced the resumption of its daily operations in Nigeria. The airline announced this on Thursday via a post on the airlines’ official X handle. The post reads: “We’re back, Nigeria! We’ll be resuming services to Lagos from 1 October 2024, and we can’t wait to offer unrivalled connectivity to Dubai and beyond to over 140 cities.” The airline suspended its flights to Nigeria in October 2022. Nairobi, May 10, 2024 – Dr Akinwumi Adesina, the President of African Development Bank (AfDB), has called for a more balanced media coverage of Africa to change false narratives about the continent. Adesina made the call during the just concluded All Africa’s Media Summit in Nairobi which was attended by nearly 300 participants from across the continent. The AfDB president praised the crucial role the media was playing in strengthening democracy and advancing inclusivity. Cairo. May 4, 2024 – Hamas delegation arrived in Cairo on Saturday to resume talks on a ceasefire deal in Gaza, after months of negotiations failed to produce a breakthrough, local media has reported. Egyptian state-linked AL Qahera News Television quoted a high-ranking source as saying that “there is significant progress in the negotiations” between the Palestinian militant group and Israel, and that the Egyptian mediators have “reached an agreed-upon formula on most points of contention.” Hamas said late on Friday its delegates were travelling to Cairo in a “positive spirit” …

Abuja, May 4, 2024 – The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC)  has unbundled the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) with the establishment of the Nigerian Independent System Operator of Nigeria Limited (NISO) The NERC disclosed this in Abuja on Saturday in an order signed by its Chairman, Mr Sanusi Garba and Vice Chairman, Mr Muslim Oseni. Abuja, May 3, 2024 – Some protesters from Zamfara State on Friday besieged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and urged it to reopen investigations against Bello Matawalle, a former governor of the state. The protesters, under the aegis of APC Loyalists Forum, urged the EFCC to investigate all petitions against the former governor, including the alleged contract diversion of up to the tune of N70 billion.
