Tinubu orders release of funds to pay protesting military retirees

Abuja, Dec. 6, 2024 – President Bola Tinubu has ordered the release of funds for the payment of pension entitlements and other demands of some retired military retirees who held a two-day protest in Abuja.

The affected officers disrupted activities at the federal Ministry of Finance in Abuja during two-day protest.  

Bello Matawalle, the Minister of State for Defence, announced the release of funds in a statement on Friday and commended the president for the prompt payment of the entitlements.

He also commended the president for his commitment to the welfare of both serving and retired military men.

The minister said the administration remained focused on resolving outstanding pension arrears to enhance the living standards of those who have served the nation.

He also commended Mr. Wale Edun, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, for his dedication to the successful disbursement of the funds.

Henshaw Ogubike, the Director of Press and Public Relations in the Ministry of Defence, confirmed the payment of some of the entitlements in a statement.     (GBN)
