Abuja, Sept. 29, 2023 – The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) refused to meet with the federal government on proposed strike on Friday.
Representatives of the federal government were scheduled to meet with labour leaders at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, by 3.00 pm on Friday, but the unions refused to turn up.
The Minister of Labour, Simon Lalong, with other top officials of government, were already in the office of the Chief of Staff for the meeting as scheduled, but the labour leaders did not keep the appointment.
The labour leaders did not arrive even till night when officials of government had to leave for their homes.
“Efforts to get the reason for their absence were unsuccessful even on Friday night.
“Government officials had to disperse since the NLC and TUC people didn’t show up.
“There must have been a reason and I believe they would have communicated their reasons to those waiting for them.
“I learnt that the meeting has been rescheduled for some time during the weekend, but I don’t know which day,” a close source said. (GBN)
