Abuja, Dec. 14, 2022 – The Senate has threatened to arrest the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Finance, Budget and National Planning if the ministry fails to provide documents on disbursement of Service Wide Votes and missing N113 million on salary adjustment of the Joint Admission Board Matriculation (JAMB).   Â
The Senate particularly threatened to issue a warrant of arrest if the Ministry’s Director in the Cash Department failed to appear it to provide the details.
Senator Matthew Urhoghide (PDP, Edo South), Chairman of Senate Committee on Public Accounts, on Tuesday said the threat was imperative because of continued absence of the director in spite of three invitations extended to him by the senate.
He said the committee wrote a letter of appearance to the ministry on 20th of October, 2022 and the letter was received on 21 October, 2022 by the ministry.
The ministry was also to give details of releases to all Ministries, Departments and Agencies, including Police and Armed Forces.
According to him, another letter was written to the ministry on December 8, 2022 on the issue concerning missing N113 million for salary augmentation in JAMB.
The Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation had told the Committee that N113 million was released to JAMB in May 2017 for salary augmentation.
But Mufutau Bello, JAMB Director of Finance and Administration, had told the Committee that N113 million was not released to JAMB, arguing that the payment would have cut across all MDAs on CONLESS. (GBN)
