Abuja, Oct 16, 2024 – The House of Representatives on Wednesday advised the Executive arm of federal government to present the 2025 Budget estimates in compliance Section 11(1)(b) of the Fiscal Responsibility Act.
The advice was sequel to the adoption of motion of urgent national importance moved by a member, Clement Jimbo.
The motion is titled “Need to urge the Executive to comply with Section 11(1)(b) of the Fiscal Responsibility Act 2007”.
Jimbo said Section 11(1)(b) of the Fiscal Responsibility Act stipulates that the federal government must, not later than four months before the commencement of the next financial year, cause to be prepared and laid before the National Assembly an MTEF for the next three financial years.
He said the time which the National Assembly required to consider the MTEF was being taken away by the non-compliance with the Act.
The House adopted the motion and directed its Committees on National Planning and Economic Development, Appropriation and Finance to ensure compliance with the Act within two weeks. (GBN)
