Abuja, Oct. 13, 2024 – Former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Sunday identified poor resource management as the main factor for Nigeria’s current economic woes.
Obasanjo said this in Abuja at the celebration of the 40th Anniversary of the Methodist Archdiocese.
He said the current poor state of the nation was not due to lack of resources, but poor management of the resources.
The former president said Nigeria is richly blessed with assets such as the Rivers Niger and Benue, crude oil, and fertile soil.
“Just as Egypt has the River Nile, we have our own rivers and a wealth of natural resources. Nigeria was not created to struggle, and it’s our responsibility to recognize and utilize these blessings.
“Many nations lack the resources we take for granted.
“We have misused the gifts God has given us, but if we humble ourselves and seek His guidance, He will heal our land,” he said.
Obsanjo said God endowed Nigeria with all resources for its growth, but leadership and poor management stifled the country’s economic development.
He called on Nigerian leaders to make effective use of the country’s abundant resources for its growth and development. (GBN)
