One dies, 6 injured, 30 trapped in collapsed mining site in Niger

Minna, June 4, 2024 – A mining site belonging to African Minerals and Logistics Limited in Galkogo in Niger State collapsed on Tuesday killing one miner, while six were injured and 30 trapped underground.

Alhaji Ibrahim Ishaku, the Manager of the site, was also trapped in the mine pit.

Abdullahi Baba Arah, the Director General of NSEMA, the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA) has confirmed the incident.

 He attributed the collapse of the mining site to the impact of rain on softened the soil.

Arah said only six miners were rescued because of the difficult terrain.
