NGX traded N18.436bn worth of shares last week – official

A total 1.910 billion shares worth N18.436 billion were traded in 20,311 deals on the Nigerian Exchange last week.

This was in contrast to the 799.848 million shares valued at N29.354 billion traded in 14,194 deals on the Exchange in the preceding week.

The ICT Industry, measured by volume, led the activity chart with 601.396 million shares valued at N2.676 billion traded in 1,607 deals.

The sector contributed 31.49 per cent and 14.52 percent to the total equity turnover volume and value, respectively.

The Financial Services Industry followed with 585.510 million shares worth N6.949 billion traded in 8,584 deals.

The Services Industry came third with 349.215 million shares worth N2.402 billion traded in 512 deals.

Transactions in the top three equities, namely: Chams Holding Company, Capital Hotels and Transnational Corporation, measured by volume, accounted for 1.038 billion shares worth N2.621 billion exchanged in 769 deals, contributing 54.3 percent and 14.22 percent to the total equity turnover volume and value, respectively.

Fifty-three equities appreciated in price during the week, higher than the 39 equities in the previous week.

Twenty-one equities depreciated in price, lower than twenty-two in the previous week, while 83 equities remained unchanged, lower than the 96 equities recorded in the preceding week.

The NGX All-Share Index and market capitalization appreciated by 1.06 percent to close the week at 55,529.21 and N30.250 trillion, respectively. (GBN)
