Abuja, May 20, 2024 – The Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Institute of Information Management (IIM) to certify over 10,000 data processing professionals in the country.
The MoU was signed in Abuja on Monday where the NDPC National Commissioner, Vincent Olatunji, presented a certificate of authorisation to the institute.
Olatunji said the licence presentation marked the beginning of the journey to make the institute a Pan-African hub for data protection professionals.
He said already, some African countries had started to approach Nigeria to learn from her experiences in data protection, licensing of data processors, and other
Olatunji said just about 2,000 data comptrollers were available in the country whwn the commission was established, but as of today 10,000 Comptrollers had been engaged.
He said the Commission engaged the institute to bridge the gap in the training of data comptrollers, processors, and other professionals needed to accelerate the growth and development of the sector.
