Abuja, Feb. 22, 2024 – The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, has warned Nigerians calling for coup as a way out of the economic hardship in the country to stop such statements.
He advised Nigerians to maintain peace and respect the superiority of democracy over other forms of government.
Musa gave the advice on while speaking to journalists at the Nigerian Army 6 Division Headquarters in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, after inaugurating some projects.
He urged individuals promoting military takeover to cease such statements.
The CDS said the military would go after persons advocating coup d’ ‘etat in the country.
He said the armed forces were on top of its game and would continue to defend and protect democracy in the country.
Musa acknowledging that the country was going through some challenges, but said coup would no longer happen in Nigeria .
Global Business News (GBN) recalls that there have been protests across the country against the current economic hardship, while some highly placed Nigerians have openly canvased for coup.
There have been protests in Ogun, Oyo, Kano, Niger and Kwara in the last few weeks.
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has also schedules its mass protest for Feb. 27 and Feb. 28. (GBN)
