Abuja, March 28, 2023 – The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) have shelved the planned national strike slated for Wednesday on shortage of naira notes.
They said they would monitor the cash supply situation across the country for two weeks before deciding on the next line of action.
Presidents of NLC, Joe Ajaero, and President of TUC, Festus Osifo, addressed a joint press conference on the issue in Abuja on Tuesday at the end of their National Executive Council meeting.
Ajaero said the NLC decided to shelve the proposed strike after receiving briefings from its state councils in the 36 States and the Federal Capital Territory.
He said the NLC would start the protest in two weeks if naira notes were still not available.
Ajaero said a committee had been set up to monitor the situation and report back to it by the end of the two weeks extension. (GBN)
