Lokoja, March 27, 2023 – kidnappers of six INEC officials kidnapped on March 19, 2023 have demanded for N50 million ransom before their release.

Babalola Peter, an Assistant Presiding Officer II in the March 18 Governorship and House of Assembly Election, said this while addressing a press conference in Lokoja on Monday.

He said he was addressing the press on behalf of the families of the kidnapped victims, stressing that his sister was one of those still held by the kidnappers.

The INEC staff were abducted in Obajana in the earlier hours of Sunday, March 19, 2023 after the Governorship and State House of Assembly election.

The victims were returning from Kupa North and South under Lokoja Local Government Area in Kogi State before they were attacked by armed hoodlums.

But the police had issued an earlier statement that 96 persons out of those abducted had been rescued by the police, while three injured and two other victims were yet to be accounted for.

Peter, who claimed to be a brother to one of the victims, however, faulted police claims that all the kidnapped victims had been rescued. (GBN)
